How can we bring young people closer to the engineering professions and inspire them to innovate?

The #AMICMA COMETES - Skills and Professions for Space, CAP ELENA and Sustainable and Decarbonised Processes of the Future (PFDD) projects pursued this objective at the Teen's Up forum held on Tuesday 17 March at the Bayonne Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

This first edition of the Teen's Up forum on the Basque Coast included a talk by Pierre Michaud from Addimadour at the conference "Imagining, creating, innovating: today's industrial professions", and a stand run by our ESTIA students, offering scientific and fun challenges to put you in the shoes of the engineering professions.

The 1st year engineering students worked during their placement on the creation of a complete collaborative educational animation: the Kourou Experience.

Tuesday 18 March saw the full-scale testing of each part:

  • Reproduction in 3D printing and redesign to simplify each payload, with electronisation of the modules and LED lighting if they are assembled in the correct order, following the indications of a riddle.
  • Move the satellite to the launch pad using a platform guided by the schoolchildren
  • Creation of a model rocket sized to accommodate the cubesat, design and 3D printing of each component.
  • Setting a countdown timer and igniting the device with a launch soundtrack.

At the same time, an ESTIA Escape Game was developed with the support of our first-year engineering trainees.
These functional prototypes have now been produced, enabling us to validate :

  • The design of the immersive scenario
  • The devices for different audiences

This initiative will be repeated at upcoming events, including the next ELENA CAMP and other COMETES events.

It's an approach that combines active teaching, experimentation and student involvement to better pass on the skills of tomorrow.
Well done to our students and thank you to our teaching staff.
