Relations entreprises | Vie du campus
Eight schools took part in this year’s event: Etxepare, Kattalin Elizalde, Villa Fal, Villa Pia, Rostand, Cantau, Largenté and Endarra. Throughout the day, the participants had the opportunity to talk to female professionals, tour the school and take part in activities designed to help them explore careers in science.
A day to encourage women to pursue careers in science
The day began with an introductory address by Hélène Marty, head of ESTIA ENTREPRENDRE, followed by a talk on gender stereotypes in science, led by Isabelle Etcheverry, a psychologist at ESTIA. This session addressed the barriers that still exist in guiding young girls towards scientific studies and technical careers.
The aim of Filles & Sciences is to raise awareness among secondary school girls of the opportunities offered by STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), whilst encouraging them to identify with inspiring female role models.
Speed meetings with female scientists and engineers
The highlight of the day, the speed meetings enabled participants to engage directly with 17 speakers: two ESTIA students and fifteen professionals from various sectors.
Several companies and organisations were represented, including Renault, VINCI ASF, the University of Pau and the Pays de l’Adour, ESTIA-TECH, Le COL, PIGWII, Technoflex, Compositadour, Exakis, Voltaire, Hupi and Prosix.
These discussions enabled the students to discover a wide range of scientific and technical careers, as well as to gain a better understanding of the career paths available following engineering or research studies.
Campus tour and collaborative workshops
In addition to the meetings, the participants explored the school through guided tours led by ESTIA students. These tours provided an opportunity to explore the teaching facilities and gain a better understanding of daily life at an engineering school.
A new activity for this year’s event, the ‘space marshmallow’ challenge invited the pupils to take on a group challenge combining creativity, design and teamwork. Led by two ESTIA staff members, Marion Saumonneau and Julie Lartigau, this activity provided a practical introduction to the principles of collaborative engineering.
ESTIA committed to gender diversity in science
Organising this fourth edition of Filles & Sciences involved more than a dozen people at ESTIA. Through this initiative, the school reaffirms its commitment to gender diversity in scientific and technical professions, supporting young girls as they explore engineering pathways and scientific careers.
This event helps to encourage new career choices and promote a more balanced representation of women in science and technology.
