Removing barriers and encouraging careers in science
Science, technology and engineering offer numerous prospects for the future. However, gender stereotypes can still influence career choices and limit young girls’ aspirations in these fields.
Encouraging their curiosity, enabling them to discover the diversity of careers in science, and giving them access to inspiring role models are all ways of changing perceptions and promoting equal opportunities.
This approach is fully in line with the initiatives undertaken by ESTIA to promote women’s careers in science and technology.
Girls & Science: introducing engineering careers in a different way
Organised by ESTIA in partnership with local schools, the ‘Girls & Science’ day is aimed at secondary school girls. Its aim is to give them a hands-on introduction to science and engineering, challenge preconceptions and enable them to consider new career paths.
Throughout the day, participants can look forward to several highlights:
- A scientific talk, to spark their curiosity and explore new topics.
- A tour of the ESTIA campus and its technology facilities, to gain a better understanding of the practical applications of science and engineering.
- Meetings with female engineers and students to discuss their career paths, experiences and professions.
- Discussions on stereotypes, to challenge preconceived notions about women and careers in science.
At its fourth edition, held on 23 April 2026, the event brought together 175 secondary school girls to discuss these issues.
Giving young girls the opportunity to envisage their future
By bringing together scientific discovery, personal accounts and networking opportunities, Filles & Sciences helps make engineering careers more accessible and tangible for younger generations.
This initiative illustrates ESTIA’s commitment to fostering a lasting shift in perceptions, by encouraging every young person to choose their career path based on their interests, skills and ambitions, without being held back by stereotypes.
Because the female engineers of tomorrow are also the young girls of today, let’s work together to open up a world of possibilities.
