Three ESTIA students – John Hoarau, Pierre Bedrune and Noa Guiol – have distinguished themselves at the Health at Work Challenge 2026, organised by the INRS (National Institute for Research and Safety). Their work on health and safety at work earned them first prize in the ‘initiates’ category. The INRS has now released a video looking back at their journey and their project.

Raising awareness amongst future engineers about the prevention of occupational risks

The Health at Work Challenge aims to raise awareness amongst students and future managers of the challenges relating to occupational risk prevention, health and safety in the workplace.

Through a practical case study, participants are asked to analyse various workplace situations, identify the risks to which employees may be exposed and propose appropriate preventive measures.

This is a particularly important process for future engineers, who will, throughout their careers, be involved in designing work environments, managing teams and implementing prevention policies.

First place for John Hoarau, Pierre Bedrune and Noa Guiol

At the 2026 event, John Hoarau, Pierre Bedrune and Noa Guiol – all three students at ESTIA – won first prize in the ‘initiates’ category of the Health at Work Challenge 2026.

To develop their proposal, the students worked on identifying occupational risks, analysing existing prevention measures and formulating concrete, practical solutions.

They also consulted with several local businesses to test their proposals against real-world conditions and to broaden their perspective.

This approach enabled them to propose a solution combining analysis, prevention and an understanding of the constraints faced by businesses.

Health and safety at work at the heart of engineering education

This award highlights the importance of a culture of prevention in engineering education.

Beyond scientific and technical skills, future engineers must be able to identify risks, anticipate their consequences and contribute to the creation of safer working environments.

ESTIA’s participation in the Health at Work Challenge 2026 is therefore part of an initiative to raise students’ awareness of the human, organisational and technical issues related to health and safety at work.

Congratulations to the three ESTIA students on taking first place!
